Feed Their Brains!
A simple guide to teaching nutrition to swimmers.

One of the foundations of quality training is GOOD NUTRITION. .

Something every swimmer should know before learning about good nutrition is this:

Food does NOT make you swim fast.

That’s right. Food does not make you swim fast. What DOES make you swim fast? Training. Training makes you swim fast. Better yet,

QUALITY training makes you swim fast.

And part of quality training is good nutrition!

Believe it or not, you don’t get fast during practice. Practice is where you might see your times improving, but your adaptation to training (i.e. getting faster) actually occurs while your body is at rest. Workout is the stimulus that causes this to happen.

Workouts are hard! Yes they are. They’re supposed to be. They’re designed to tell the body, “This is hard work for me…you better do something to enable me to do it again later.” And the body actually responds by becoming more efficient – aerobically and anaerobically. During its time off, the body WILL adapt. But only if you give it the proper fuels.

Learning about good nutrition can be simple. Conduct your “Nutrition Course” over the season with these 8 easy-to-read (and learn) educational and practical tips for teens and twenty-somethings:

1. Fueling Your Stroke – The Concept of Buying and Burning Gas
2. Eating Colorful Foods
3. How Much is Enough?
4. Timing is Everything!
5. Choosing the Best Cereals
6. What IS a Serving?
7. FLUIDS - Water vs Sports Drink
8. Analyzing Your Diet

Five Short Years Ago, was a brand new USA Swim Club with only a handful of swimmers.  This Month, at the Short Course Age Group State Championships, Our Team was grouped with four others in The Division One Category as one of The Five Largest Teams In the State of Georgia.  The other four teams have provided The Benefits Of USA Swimming to their communities for 39, 26, 17 and 11 years.  We Are Proud to so quickly join ranks with these fine organizations and look forward to a long history of training young athletes to Swim, to Compete and to Learn the Value of Setting and Attaining Goals.

To say Brooke was a phenom at the age of 16 years old when she stormed the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games would not give her ample respect.  A phenom represents a meteoric rise in a short period of time.  The problem with that description, Brooke is still getting better and that is bad news for the rest of the 400m, 800m and 1,500m swimmers in the World.  Considered by many to be one of the All-Time best middle and long distance swimmers in the World, Brooke has earned all of her accolades.  Look at some of her amazing accomplishments: 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist (800m Freestyle), 1997 Double Gold Medalist at the Pan Pacific Games (800m & 1500m Freestyle), 1998 World Champion (800m Freestyle).  When you think of a female athlete with all the skills, beauty, intelligence, grace and a heart of a lion, think of Brooke.

Tidal Wave families donated 5, 30 gallon trash bags full of coats to Must Ministries this week.  Operations Manager, Ken Derby, said they are in desperate need of coats, and was thrilled to receive ours.   Feed My Lambs, is a ministry to children.  They are still in need of children’s coats, hats and gloves.  Please bring your donations to any coach at any practice and we will get these items into the hands of the children who need them.   It is our goal that Tidal Wave be known for much more than its awesome swimmers.  Help us make this goal a reality.  Stay tuned for more opportunities to bless those in need.
